'service clvmd stop' fails and subsequent lvm commands hang in RHEL 5 Update 10

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • If I issue a 'service clvmd stop', it fails and lvm commands after that block forever:
# service clvmd stop
Deactivating clustered VG(s): 0 logical volume(s) in volume group "clust" now active
                                                           [ OK ]
Signaling clvmd to exit [ OK ]
Waiting for clvmd to exit: [FAILED]
clvmd failed to exit [FAILED]

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 Update 10 with the Resilient Storage Add On
  • lvm2-cluster-2.02.88-9.el5_10.2 or later
    • locking_type = 3 in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf
    • CLVMD_OPTS="-d[<value>]" (where <value> may be 0, 1, or 2) in /etc/sysconfig/clvmd, or clvmd -d[<value>] being issued manually
