Poor Samba performance after migrating clients from Windows XP to Windows 7

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

After migrating our desktop clients from Windows XP to Windows 7, we are experiencing very poor performance when reading files from a Samba share. The problem is particularly evident with .exe files. With Windows XP we loaded a specific application from a share in about 10 seconds. When using Windows 7 the elapsed time is 100 seconds.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Samba 3x
  • Windows 7
  • Beyond Trust Powerbroker Desktop Client 5.2.x
