Getting error "clvmd not running on node <node>, Unable to drop cached metadata for VG <name>" when I try to manage a local, non-clustered volume or volume group in RHEL 6 cluster

Issue

  • Getting error clvmd not running on node XXX , Unable to drop cached metadata for VG VGNAME. when I tried to extend non-clustered lvm in cluster machine where I set locking_type to 3.
# lvextend -r -L +50M /dev/mapper/myVG-myLV
  Rounding size to boundary between physical extents: 52.00 MiB
  Extending logical volume myLV to 404.00 MiB
  clvmd not running on node nodeB
  Unable to drop cached metadata for VG myVG.
  clvmd not running on node nodeB

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 with the Resilient Storage Add On
  • lvm2-cluster
    • locking_type = 3 in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf
    • clvmd running on the node where the LVM command is failing
    • One or more nodes that are active members of the cluster, but not running clvmd
