spacewalk-create-channel command fails with "Error: data file 'X-uY-server-x86_64' does not exist"

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • While creating a custom channel using spacewalk-create-channel it fails with -
/usr/bin/spacewalk-create-channel --server=satellite.example.com --user=username --password=password --version=5 --release=Server --arch=x86_64 --update=U8 --destChannel=custom-5u8-test --clone --name="Dev 5u8 Test"
Error: data file '5-u8-server-x86_64' does not exist

However, while specifying --update=U6 the command succeeds. Is there something missing currently that is required to create a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5u8 channel?

  • Is it possible to execute spacewalk-create-channel command from remote system and change the --server option to point to satellite server ?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Red Hat Satellite v 5.4
