Why do system version remain Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4 rather than being RHEL 6.5 after executing "yum update" command from the same machine ?

Issue

  • Applied yum update to RHEL 6.4 system after booting internally system version is RHEL 6.5 but booting screen shows loading 6.4.

  • System reflecting the same release even after running "yum update" command

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Red Hat Network
