Registering to RHN using RHSM fails with the "certificate verify failed" error

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x

Issue

  • Registration using Red Hat Subscription Management (RHSM) failed with the "certificate verify failed" error:
[root@user rhn]# subscription-manager register
Username: <username>
Password:
certificate verify failed
[root@user rhn]#

Resolution

  • Check current time is correct.

  • Disable certificate validation:

In /etc/rhsm/rhsm.conf, change

# Set to 1 to disable certificate validation:
insecure = 0

to

insecure = 1

  • Register the system.

yes... it did help.. now my system is registered... but I keep having an issue... because now, when I type the rhn_register and go to Red Hat Network (RHN) Classic it is asking me for a SSL certificate and I don't have one

i got this error after changing the value insecure to 1

'exceptions.ValueError' object has no attribute 'msg'

Looks like this only helps for registering. Even with insecure = 1, "subscription-manager refresh" still fails with invalid certificates, and yum operations still fail.

Is disabling the security provided by TLS really the answer??
