Shared CUPS Printers via Samba on RHEL does not pull printer properties through

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • If I were to set a printer property such as 'Duplex' or 'Standard Tray' (or any property) on the CUPS/Samba print server the Windows clients do not pick this up, I am just wondering if this is a configuration issue my end or if this is unsupported.

  • Every Windows, Linux, etc. printer has default options that are shipped with the driver - such as what the printer supports, if its color, if its plain paper in tray 1, or whatever. Changing these options on the RHEL system has no effect on Windows clients.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) 1.4.2
  • Samba print server
