Why does information on openssl version differ after patching?

After applying patch openssl verison difference is found. Which version of openssl is installed ?

$ openssl version 
returns:  OpenSSL 1.0.1e-fips 11 Feb 2013

$ yum list openssl 
returns:  1.0.1e-16.el6_5.7
