Why nslookup from Linux server is returned with extra period?

Issue

Running nslookup on Linux server return extra period?

Test1> nslookup 192.168.23.218 
Server:         192.168.1.24 
Address:        192.168.1.24#53 

218.23.168.192.in-addr.arpa      name = example.com.local. <- "." at the end.   
  • Where pinging name does not produce such output.
Test> nslookup example 
Server:         192.168.1.24 
Address:        192.168.1.24#53 

Name:   example.com.local <- There is no "." at the end.  
Address: 10.101.23.218
