RHEL6: Packets with VLAN tags are not bridged

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • A RHEL host is configured with a bridge br0
    • The bridge contains at least one physical interface if0 supporting hardware VLAN acceleration (for example an Intel 82599 based NIC with the ixgbe driver)
    • Other interfaces on the bridge could be virtual machines or other physical interfaces
  • The host also has a VLAN configured on the bridge, br0.NNN
  • VLAN tagged packets coming from if0 are correctly received by the host, but are not forwarded to other bridged interfaces when appropriate.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • KVM guests (not essential, but the most common configuration in which this occurs)
