RHEL 6.5 performance is poor compared to earlier versions
Issue
- Stress test shows lower performance
- Thread scalability test shows low performance
- Unable to scale application performance when thread count approches number of CPUs
- Application not utilizing all CPUs
- From perf stat, we can see some of the CPU's are idle.. while a few of them are 90+ percent used
- one of two CPU's seem to be taking the load, and we have majority of the CPU's idle.. via MPstat
- is there any settings I can look at to see why the other CPU's in the servers are not being used...
- Are s390x servers affected?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5
- kernel at least 2.6.32-431.el6 and prior to 2.6.32-431.19.1.el6
- NUMA system
- any architecture except s390x (s390x kernel does not support CONFIG_NUMA)
