JBDS returns The Server encountered a problem and failed to start

Issue

Predefined JBoss runtime environment in JBDS is not able to start with the following error messages:

"The Server encountered a problem and failed to start".

The log in the ~/$WORKSPACE/.metadata/.log is not much more verbose and it says only:

!ENTRY org.eclipse.wst.server.core 4 0 2014-02-13 12:34:04.655
            !MESSAGE Server jboss-eap-6.0 failed to start.

What is the reason for this and how it can be fixed ?
