corosync triggers excessive ARP requests for missing nodes in RHEL 6 when using UDPU

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Recently we have found in our system that there are excessive ARP requests/replies for the nodes (members) listed in corosync.conf file. We use udpu as transport.
  • My cluster is sending very frequent arp requests to nodes which are listed in the configuration (either cluster.conf or corosync.conf) but are not currently active.
  • The cluster sends packets to members of the cluster that are missing

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 with the High Availability Add On
  • corosync
  • UDPU configured as the corosync transport
    • <cman transport="udpu"/> in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf if using cman
    • "transport: updu" in /etc/corosync/corosync.conf" if not usingcman`
