Why does print output of pdf files from mozilla firefox have blurry / poor quality on RHEL6 ?

Issue

  • Printing pdf files from firefox's built-in pdf reader results in blurry output.

    • Printing to a physical printer or digital file makes no difference.

  • In evince and acroread the printout quality is good. The command line lp printout also has good quality. Only in Firefox ESR 24.3.0 is the text fuzzy, even with 600DPI resolution.
