Why ping from Windows system to RHEL system with ip address works but with hostname does not ?

Issue

  • ping from Windows system to RHEL system with ip address works fine , but when used hostname of RHEL system instead of ip address it does not work.
  • When hostname to IP address entry is made in Windows system's hosts file then it works fine, but how to make it work without using hosts file ?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (Any Version)
  • Windows System (Any Version)
