Intel wireless card fails initialization if the RF kill switch is enabled

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Intel wireless card fails initialization if the RF kill switch is enabled
  • If you enable the "WLAN/LAN-Switching" in BIOS (which you probably want if you deal with a lot of clients using both WLAN/LAN), the driver doesn't seem to initialize correctly if you have a network-cable attached.
  • This is seen on several models of HP EliteBook with Intel Wireless 7000 wi-fi cards

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 and earlier
  • Intel Corporation Wireless card using iwlwifi driver
