NFS server becomes unresponsive when bond 6 mode is used on RHEL 6.5

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • After a scheduled reboot on one of my servers, NIC bonding is causing network connectivity to behave erratically. As most users /home directories live on a remote NFS server, this translates to general slowness at the shell, either when running any command, or by attempting tab-autocompletion. All users also include an NFS-mounted /software tree in their PATH. I created a test user with a local home, and no NFS shares references in the PATH, and the system is responsive until one tries to access the NFS shares.

Environment

  • Red hat Enterprise Linux 6.5
    • kernel 2.6.32-431.3.1.el6.x86_64
  • NFS
  • Bonding
