Unable to provision more than 2 baremetal nodes at a time through ACM via syncing clusterinstance manifest.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We are attempting to provision a baremetal OpenShift cluster through ACM via syncing manifest files through GitOps. We are using HPE iLO 6 and 7. However, it is unable to provision more than 2 nodes at a time. We attempt to provision 4 nodes: A, B, and C (master nodes) and D (worker node). No matter what, only 2 nodes will reach the ready state in ACM's host inventory. The other 2 will timeout during the inspecting stage, but all nodes will reach the ignition stage during boot.

  • DuplicateNodeOnLookup errors in the metal3-ironic container:

2025-11-27T05:40:34.318Z ERROR ironic.api.controllers.v1.ramdisk "ironic.common.exception.DuplicateNodeOnLookup: Multiple nodes with port addresses ['...xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx...'] were found"

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform

    • 4.18.28
  • Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes

    • 2.13.4
