Unable to load "oracleasm" module

Issue

  • Oracle ASM disks are not showing on the server and oracleasm module fails to load:

    Loading module "oracleasm": failed
Unable to load module "oracleasm"
Mounting ASMlib driver filesystem: failed
Unable to mount ASMlib driver filesystem

  • Even modprobe command fails to load the module:

    $ modprobe oracleasm
modprobe: FATAL: Module oracleasm not found in directory /lib/modules/4.18.0-553.51.1.el8_10.x86_64

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10
  • kernel-4.18.0-553.el8_10 and later
  • kmod-redhat-oracleasm-2.0.8-18.2.el8_10
  • oracleasm-support-2.1.12-1.el8
  • oracleasmlib-2.0.17-1.el8
