Cockpit throws an error "Sorry, user is not allowed to execute '/bin/cockpit-bridge --privileged' as root" while switching to Administrator

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Servers joined to a IdM domain allow users to log into the Cockpit Web Console using their IdM credentials. However, when users attempt to elevate privileges (e.g., to access Red Hat Directory Server within Cockpit), the elevation fails with the following error:

Sorry, user is not allowed to execute "/bin/cockpit-bridge --privileged" as root on testserver.org

  • The same user is able to successfully perform privileged tasks via SSH using sudo.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
  • Cockpit Web Console
