Controlling UDN/CUDN Resource Allocation on Specific Cluster Nodes

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Applying a UDN (User Define Network) /CUDN (Cluster User Defined Network) configuration currently results in the creation of network components and the application of annotations from that configuration to all nodes.
  • Currently, network flows and annotations are applied to all available nodes within the cluster.
  • Is it possible to limit the nodes on which application projects are created?
  • Master/Infrastructure nodes typically do not handle application workloads in most clusters. Therefore, there is no need to create additional annotations, switches, or routers within their OVN-IC (Open Virtual Network - Interconnect). Furthermore, this configuration generates Open vSwitch (OVS) flows on these nodes that remain unused if application workloads are not scheduled to run there.
  • Is it possible to limit the host subnet and overhead configuration to selected nodes within the UDN?

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
