DNF command fails with "Segmentation Fault (core dumped)" when accessing repositories with large metadata
Issue
- When executing any
dnfcommand that interacts with configured repositories (e.g.,dnf update,dnf install,dnf repolist), the command fails with a "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" error message. - This prevents
dnffrom successfully performing any package management operations.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8, 9, and 10
- Specifically observed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 8.10 (Ootpa)
- This limitation applies to all currently available versions of
dnfandlibsolv.- Example versions where this has been observed include:
dnfversion:dnf-4.14.0-17.el9.noarchlibsolvversion:libsolv-0.7.24-3.el9.x86_64
- Example versions where this has been observed include:
- Applies to both physical and virtual systems.
- SELinux status is not a contributing factor.
