Valgrind RPM package depends on unintended Python 3.11 interpreter

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Installing the valgrind RPM package results in the installation of the Python 3.11 interpreter as a dependency.
  • In previous versions (up to RHEL 8.8), valgrind only required Python 3.6. However, in RHEL 8.9, it began pulling in Python 3.11.
  • The presence of Perl and/or Python 3.11 interpreters may cause confusion and potential misuse in software development environments.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Valgrind
