mailx fails to attach files in RHEL 9

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • s-nail fails when trying to send a message with a specific attachment:

    # file /path/to/attachment/file
/path/to/attachment/file: Non-ISO extended-ASCII text, with very long lines, with CRLF, NEL line terminators
    # echo "Message body" | mail -s "Subject" -a /path/to/attachment/file user@example.com
s-nail: Cannot find a usable character set to encode message: No such entry, file or directory
    /root/dead.letter 3/58
    s-nail: ... message not sent

  • The exact same command in RHEL 8 with the same attachment file works correctly.

Environment
