Unable to migrate VM from VMware to Openshift Virtualization due to DNS issue

Issue

  • VM migration using Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV) from VMware to Openshift Virtualization is failing during the v2v process due to DNS issue. Specifically, the failure occurs because the ESXi host is added with a shortname/hostname in vCenter and the DNS cannot resolve this hostname correctly
nbdkit: vddk[1]: error: [NFC ERROR]Nfc_BindAndEstablishAuthdCnx3: Failed to create a connection with server <server_name>: Host address lookup for server <server_name> failed: Name or service not known

Environment

  • Migration Toolkit for Virtualization 2.7.x, 2.8.x.
  • OpenShift Virtualization 4.16, 4.17, 4.18.
