Inconsistency in output between locale -a and localctl list-locale

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • After installing the language package as described in Missing "iso88591" option for Language after installing a Language Pack in RHEL 8, when trying to check the list of languages, localectl list-locales output only shows UTF-8 language whereas locale -a shows all the installed languages. Is this expected behaviour?

    $ localectl list-locales | grep nb_NO
    nb_NO.UTF-8

    $ locale -a | grep nb_NO
    nb_NO
    nb_NO.iso88591
    nb_NO.utf8
