802.1x device (ens1): state change: need-auth -> failed (reason 'no-secrets', sys-iface-state: 'managed')

Issue

  • After setting up an 802.1x connection using the nmcli tool according to RHEL8 documentation, the connection failed to initiate with the following error:
    device (ens1): state change: need-auth -> failed (reason 'no-secrets', sys-iface-state: 'managed').
  • Some machines running the same version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux are working and some have encountered the above error and the secure interface is not coming online.
  • NetworkManager reports : Activation: (ethernet) association took too long.
