When running IBM Storage Scale on OpenShift Container Platform nodes, mmfsd fails with "insmod: ERROR: could not insert module Required key not available"

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When running IBM Storage Scale daemons on a Red Hat OpenShift cluster, starting the mmfsd services or pods fails with the error insmod: ERROR: could not insert module Required key not available.
  • Errors may include a specific kernel module/driver path such as tracedev.ko or mmsfd.ko:
Fri May 24 20:10:16 UTC 2024: runmmfs: insmod: ERROR: could not insert module /lib/modules/4.18.0-372.64.1.el8_6.x86_64/extra/tracedev.ko: Required key not available
  • This leaves nodes unable to use IBM Storage Scale for pod volumes and may cause downtime of applications.

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
  • IBM Storage Scale Container Native 5.1.7.0
