UEFI boot fails, HP P440i Internal RAID adapter points to an old logical drive

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • HPE array manager complains about the RAID volume is pointing to an old detached boot volume. Even if all the disks are offline the RAID adapter will not remove the array entry in the controller flash memory.
  • When an old or incorrect RAID volume is presented by the HPE array manger, the Anaconda installer is prevented from installing onto the appropriate RAID volume.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, 8, 9
  • HPE Smart Array Controller firmware version at or below:
    • Smart Array P440ar Controller 7.00
    • System ROM P89 v2.74
    • Boot Mode: UEFI Mode
