How does systemd-coredump escape filenames?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

If a process has got a period in its name, the filename of the core dump generated gets the period replaced by the \x2e sequence. For instance, if the process name is test_process-1.123.0-1, the name of the core dump becomes core.test_process-1\x2e123….lz4.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • systemd-coredump as the core dump handler
