Printing to Windows printers via the LPD protocol is not working

Issue

  • We have an issue with CUPS, lpd is not working; just not sending prints.
  • The connection to some printers via the LPD protocol is failing.
  • We are frequently seeing the status "/usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd" failed in our printers.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS)
  • Printing to a Windows print server via the Line Printer Daemon (LPD) protocol.
