Multi-RHEL support on Red Hat Openstack Platform 17.1

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • We are planning to deploy a fresh installation of Red Hat Openstack Platform 17.1.2 on mixed hardware.

  • Three types of physical servers will be part of this cluster:
    1) Dell PowerEdge R630, certified up to RHEL 8.9
    2) Dell PowerEdge R640, certified up to RHEL 9.3
    3) Dell PowerEdge R650, certified up to RHEL 9.3

  • A blog post from Red Hat states that Red Hat Openstack Platform 17.1 allows running either RHEL 8.4/RHEL 9.2 on compute nodes to provide flexibility with the hardware of our choice.

  • We plan to deploy Openstack with the following scenario:

    - Control Plane runs on RHEL 9.2 certified hardware
    - Computes nodes runs either on RHEL 8.4 and RHEL 9.2
  • We would like to know if this scenario is supported by Red Hat for a fresh installation of Red Hat Openstack Platform 17.1.

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenStack Platform 17.1 (RHOSP)
