ipmiconsole fails with "ipmiconsole_submit_block: internal error" when executing from a FIPS system

Issue

  • Trying to execute ipmiconsole from a RHEL9 system in FIPS 140-3 mode, the following error message is displayed

    $ ipmiconsole -h remotehost -u root -p PASSWORD
ipmiconsole_submit_block: internal error

  • Executing the same command from a RHEL8 system works fine

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 and later
    • FIPS 140-3
    • freeipmi (ipmiconsole)
