VNC service does not start when user home directory is in a custom path

Issue

  • User accounts are configured with home directories on custom paths (not under /home)

  • VNC services fail to start and messages like these are seen in the system logs:

    Mar 13 17:57:31 rhel-9-2 vncsession[8712]: Failure creating log file "/home2/vncuser2/.vnc/rhel-9-2:2.log": Permission denied
Mar 13 17:57:31 rhel-9-2 vncsession[8688]: vncsession: vncserver exited with status=71

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8, 9
  • tigervnc-server version 1.10.1 and later
