TPM device failing to probe in RHEL 9.3 with error `tpm_crb: probe of MSFT0101:00 failed with error 378`

Issue

  • After upgrading to RHEL 9.3, the TPM device is no longer recognized. The following errors appear in dmesg:

    tpm_crb: probe of MSFT0101:00 failed with error 378
tpm_crb: probe of INTC6001:00 failed with error 378 
tpm_crb: probe of MSFT0101:00 failed with error 512
  • The TPM device is missing from /sys/class/tpm/.
  • LUKS-encrypted partitions fail to unlock automatically using the TPM key.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.3
  • Hardware with Pluton-based TPM (e.g., ASUS PN63-S1)
  • LUKS encryption using TPM for auto-unlock
