SCP connections display: unknown user lost connection and SSH connections display: I have no name

Issue

  • Unable to connect via scp or sftp but ssh connections are successful but display the following error:
/usr/bin/id: cannot find name for user ID
[I have no name!@server]
  • A failed scp connection displays the following error:
/usr/bin/id: cannot find name for user ID
unknown user
lost connection
  • A failed sftp connection displays the following error:
Connection closed.
Connection closed.

  • openssh
  • scp
  • sftp
