While login in, user receives "This account is currently not available" error

Issue

  • When logging in locally, user receives an error message after entering their password:
This account is currently not available
  • When logging in remotely (via SSH), user enters their password and then nothing appears to happen. No command prompt is presented.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
