Interactive init scripts are not working as expected in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Issue

  • Interactive init scripts are not working as expected in RHEL 6.  The same script works fine in RHEL 3/4/5. In RHEL 6,  following is observed

           1. It takes two carriage returns to get to the next prompt (not a consistent behavior)
           2. The password portion of the script only lets you enter a single characters when prompted for a password, then move on to the confirm password prompt

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL 6)
  • Custom interactive init script
