Unable to restart kubelet service on OpenShift 4.x due to hanging process

Issue

  • Node is in the NotReady state due to kubelet errors.
  • After following all the debugging present in this article kubelet still will not restart.
  • In some cases the kubelet process could undergo an unclean shutdown as requested by systemd. In this case, systemd would believe the process to be stopped while it is not.

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (RHOCP) 4.
