I have 2 pmlogger instances running, archiving metrics from one RHEL system. Why is one instance generating much more archive files?

Issue

I have followed this guide to setup a central server and monitor server, both are configured to fetch and archive metrics from one RHEL system. One system will also monitor other systems ("central server"), and the other is the system to be monitored ("monitor server"). But I notice the archive file size in central server is much smaller than monitor server. So a single day of archive logs in /var/log/pcp/pmlogger/<servername>/ for this system has a different size.

I would like the central server to have the same archive metrics that on monitor server has. So I could analysis the metrics with "pmrep" on the central server instead on the monitor server, as the process is CPU intensive.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6, 7, 8 and 9
  • Performance Co-Pilot (PCP)
  • monitoring
