Virtual Machine fails to boot after increasing the number of VirtIO Disks

Issue

  • VM fails to boot with "No bootable device found" shown in the console
  • Adding VirtIO virtual disks or other devices makes the VM fail to boot
  • Cannot boot VM with 10 or more disks

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • BIOS Virtual Machine
  • Many Virtual Disks (VirtIO)
