RHEL 8.8 with bonding of Intel 800-series "ice" NICs fails to boot

Issue

  • When kickstarting a Dell PowerEdge R750 containing an Intel E810-XXV network card that is bonded, the kernel deadlocks on firstboot.
  • ice driver does not work in a bond, system hangs on startup

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • 8.6 with kernel-4.18.0-372.9.1
    • 8.8 with kernel-4.18.0-477.13.1
    • 9.2 with kernel-5.14.0-284.11.1
  • Intel E810 or other 800-series network interface card using ice driver
  • Bond interfaces using bonding driver
