"Connection timed out" message is returned after "systemctl daemon-reload" has been run

Issue

  • I get the error Failed to list units: Connection timed out for each systemd command like systemctl -t service just after executing systemctl daemon-reload
  • systemd isn't responsive for a long time

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • nfs-server with non-resolvable ACLs in its exports file
