OCP upgrade stuck with whereabouts reconciler fails in Error/CrashLoopBackOff state

Issue

  • The upgrade to OpenShift 4.12 sticks with the network ClusterOperator in Degraded state and whereabouts-reconciler pods looping in Error/CrashLoopBackOff state.
  • whereabouts-reconciler pods' logs, in openshift-multus namespace, show the following:
    [error] could not create the pod networks controller: Could not find node with node name ''.: resource name may not be empty
