Custom fonts may not be rendered correctly using ghostgscript to create PDF documents in RHEL

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After following the procedures described in Ghostscript error "Can't find font with non-string name: false.", some characters are not being rendered correctly in the PDF document. We are seeing Chinese characters, but English characters and numbers are incorrect.
  • An custom-installed CIDFont displays correctly in a PNG image file or to an X11 display, but renders improperly in PDF.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 & 9
  • ghostscript 9.27 & 9.54
