Issue

  • I have a RHEL server which acts as a host to virtual guests, and I want to remove a storage device from both host and guest

  • How can I remove a storage device which is mapped by multipath, active in a volume group, and presented to a VM which uses it in a volume group and has a file system on it mounted?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 or 6
  • KVM/libvirt virtualization
  • SCSI device mapped by device-mapper-multipath on host and active in a volume group on both host and VM
