Issue

  • How do I create a persistent IPv6 GRE tunnel with NetworkManager?
  • ip6gre tunnel interface does not persist after reboot
  • IP tunnels are down and need to recreate tunnel interfaces from scratch every time
  • NetworkManager does not work with ifcfg file to create GRE tunnel
  • We create an IP tunnel with ip link commands which works, but need to make the tunnel configuration permanent

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 and later
  • NetworkManager-1.12 and later
  • IPv6 GRE (Generic Routing Encapsulation) tunnel, such as ip6gretap
