How to limit print job options in the graphical print settings dialog box

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

We have a requirement to enable PIN to print in our production environment. We have all HP printers and have had success getting PIN to print to work using the HP print drivers. Unfortunately we are unable to enforce printer settings such as enabling PIN to print on client desktops. While CUPS offers the printer to the user, they can override the option to disabled in the print dialog within each application. What we expect to happen is that the "PIN to print" option is enabled on the CUPS server and cannot be overridden by the user on their desktop or individual apps.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), all versions
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS), all versions
  • client.conf configured to send all print jobs to a remote print server
  • The CUPS service (cupsd) is not running on the workstations
