Receiving error "systemd-udevd: Error changing net interface name 'ens192' to 'enp11s0': File exists" on RHEL hosted in VMWare ESXi when using custom naming file

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Interface cannot be renamed by using NamePolicy path in a custom naming file.
  • We are using /etc/systemd/network/99-default.link to make naming policy to use path only, which has been working in 8.2, but it fail we step up on 8.6
  • systemd-udevd: could not rename interface '2' from 'ens192' to 'enp11s0': File exists

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • 8
  • vmxnet3
  • VMWare ESXi
