Directory Server Retro Changelog trimming
Issue
The Directory Server
Retro Changelog maintains Directory Server
4.x style changelog for compatibility with older LDAP
clients. It can also be configured and used by other components in the Red Hat IDM
/IPA
. This feature is often confused with the replication changelog and it can get out of hand in terms of its on disk size footprint if configured incorrectly.
The Retro Changelog
database files reside under
/var/lib/dirsrv/slapd-<INSTANCE>/db/changelog
and are maintained by the server. The server should also trim this changelog periodically to ensure any data it contains over certain age is removed, effectively trimming the changelog. Over time, if Retro Changelog
trimming does not take place at regular and reasonable intervals, the changelog can grow in size filling up the disk space.
Environment
